The Covid-19 pandemic has drastically changed the way that university students utilize on-campus spaces to complete their academic work. Each campus has developed policies in order to ensure the health and safety of university students, faculty, and staff. Many of these policies are specifically focused on campus facilities and in many cases campus buildings have specific hours of operation and rules regarding which people have access to specific spaces. Because these policies vary by campus community, understanding what spaces are available when and to whom can be incredibly confusing.
This confusion can be compounded by information overload that stems from the immense amount of communication produced by university departments and leadership. Using government and health organization guideline documents, university policy documents, and university communications (emails, websites, social media posts, videos, etc.), this guide aims to alleviate some of the confusion and anxiety students may be experiencing when trying to use academic libraries on campus spaces.
